    • Transcription of Richard's will by Sue Eaton:
      I Richard Howse of Winson in the County of Gloucester Gentleman being weak in body but of sound mind memory and understanding, thanks be to God for the same, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say First I commend my soul into the hands of God who gave it and my body to the Earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named and as to what worldly Estate it hath pleased God to bestow upon me I dispose thereof as follows. Imprimis in case my wife shall happen to be ensient with Child at the time of my decease I give devise and bequeath all and singular my Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments and also all my personal Estate of what nature and kind soever to my uncle Richard Fletcher his Heirs Executors and Administrators until my said Wife shall be of such Child delivered or die which shall first happen In Trust for the sole use and benefit of such after born Child his or her Heirs Executors or Administrators But if there shall be no such Child or being such he or she shall depart this life before the age of twenty one years and without Issue then I give and bequeath to my said Wife all my household Goods Plate China 2 Beds Linnen and Woollen and Furniture whatsoever and also the sum of one hundred pounds. I give and bequeath to my Brother Harman Howse the sum of one thousand pounds. I give and devise to Thomas Filby who lives with me the sum of forty pounds all which Legacies I do hereby order and direct to be paid respectively by my Executor hereinafter named within twelve months next after my decease with the payment of all which Legacies I do hereby charge all my Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments not settled in Jointure on my said wife and as to all the rest and residue of my Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments and all my real and personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever not herein before disposed of I give devise and bequeath the same subject to the payment of all the Legacies herein before mentioned to my Brother John Howse his Heirs Executors and Administrators provided always that if my said Wife shall choose to quit and give up the Lands so settled upon her as aforesaid to my said brother John Howse and shall within twelve calendar months next after my decease give Notice thereof to my said Brother John Howse in writing Then and in such case I give to my said wife the sum of one thousand pounds to be paid her by my said Executor within fifteen months next after my decease with the payment whereof I do hereby charge all my Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments not settled in jointure as aforesaid and I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said John Howse sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament. In Witness I have hereto set my hand and seal this sixth day of March one thousand seven hundred and sixty six. Rich. Howse. Signed sealed and published and declared by the said Richard Howse as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as Witnesses thereto in his presence and at his request and also in the presence of each other – John Howse. John Crips. John Jones.

      This Will was proved at London the first day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty seven before the Right Worshipful George Hay Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of John Howse the brother of the deceased and sole Executor named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased having been first sworn by Commission duly to administer.

      Note forwarded by Tony Kimber: "The 3rd part of the Manor of Winson which passed to Thomas Howse the younger was held by his descendants for over 2 centuries. Richard Howse(d1718) left his lands to his son Richard who held 194a in 1728,Richard ,d,1753 was succeeded by his son Richard,d,1766 whose widow Esther quitclaimed her lands settled on her to his brother and heir John in 1767. John died 1807,was succeeded by his son Richard,d,1808 and William.William held 380 acres in Winson and Coln St Dennis."
