    Notes
    • She was baptized on 30 Jun 1916 at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Ipswich, Qld; as Cecilia Catherine Twoomey. She was ill with rheumatoid arthritis between 1950 and 2000. She died on 22 Aug 2000 at Holy Spirit Home, Carseldine, Brisbane, Qld, at age 84. She was buried on 24 Aug 2000 at Pinnaroo cemetery, cnr Graham Rd & Bridgeman Rd, Bridgeman Downs, Qld; with husband.
      She was known as Celia.

Noel owned a milk run, delivering dairy products in the Stafford area of Brisbane. Noel and Celia raised 8 children in Hendra (12 Doncaster Street), Brisbane. Noel Howes was raised at the intersection of Gerler and Nudgee Roads, Hendra on Nudgee Rd at a house called, "Somerton".

From Claire Adermann nee Howes, Celia's daughter:
Mum, I'm pretty sure grew up in Red Hill, Brisbane most of her life and she talked about
working at the catholic primary school near her when she finished school, probably something similar to a teacher-aide, don't know whether she got paid. Then she worked at a casket shop in the city (I think) but I don't know when or for how long, Jeremy or Katherine should ask her best friend Mary O'Connor who is still alive or maybe Aunty Sylvia/Uncle Arthur remember. I might try to dig up mum's Obituary that may tell us some stuff.
I remember her telling us how poor they were growing up in Red Hill etc.

From Katherine Howes, daughter of Cecelia Catherine Toomey:

Cecelia Catherine born 8.6.1916; died 22.8.2000 Brisbane. Born in Ipswich. Not sure just when they moved to Glassey Street, Red Hill, but this was alsays "home" to Mum. She says on the tape to Chris. that "they" wanted her to be a teacher and so did she, - she says she was a good teacher, but she had no one to teach her! She was not a qualified teacher. I think she was more like a "teacher's aide" at the Convent at St. Bridget's school, Red Hill. She was paid 15 shillings a month and she gave it all to her mother (she says). She worked later at a newsagency in the city in the TGB Building and was there when she met Dad I think. She did do some nurse training, but was never fully qualified. She did this at Goodna hospital where she made many lifelong friends.
