Son of George Harper & Drusilla nee Lane, who married in 1875
George Henry Harper (12 May 1877 – 14 July 1914) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Wolverhampton Wanderers , Grimsby Town , and Sunderland .
He made significant contributions to the sport during his career, representing multiple clubs and leaving a mark on the football landscape.
In the late 1890s, Harper was a key player for Wolverhampton Wanderers FC . During the 1899-1900 season, he emerged as their top goalscorer. However, in 1901, he was transferred to Grimsby Town FC , where he spent only one season before moving on to Sunderland FC . His playing career concluded in 1914 with Sunderland.
Beyond the pitch, George Harper also demonstrated bravery and compassion. In a notable incident, he rescued two boys from drowning near an old clay pit. Without hesitation, he jumped into the water and successfully retrieved the boys, earning recognition for his gallant act Link 1 .
