Hello, fellow truth seekers. Hope you had a good April. Before I go any further, I just want to thank all of you who wrote in or posted a reply to my newsletter expressing condolences to my family on the loss of my mother. Your thoughts were greatly appreciated. Thank you. Mr & Mrs Arthur Henry ...

Man about the Howse - March 2021

Happy new month everyone. Photos I hope you liked the wedding photograph in the email. To me it’s a classic period piece of a 1920s marriage. It shows the wedding party from the marriage of Charles Edward Howes to Myrtle Edgren in Chicago in 1923, shared with us by a correspondent. It’s very reminis...

Man about the Howes - February 2021

Happy new month, everyone. I'm not exactly sure when this is going to be sent, as I sent an email only 7 days ago, as you probably know. I may be delayed until tomorrow. We will see. Progress this month Because my laptop went South on me, it took a week before I could raise a technician to come out ...

Re: Man about the House - January 2021

Just a small update. I found another reference to the four articles I noted above about Skyler Howes, the motorcyclist: https://www.motorsport.com/dakar/news/price-wins-howes-leads-ktm/4936017/ https://motorsports.nbcsports.com/2021/01/09/dakar-rally-skyler-howes-privateer-overall-leader/ https://di...

Man about the House - January 2021

Hello everyone. Happy new month. My sincere apologies for the delay in my writing and sending January's newsletter but on Sunday evening my laptop melted down on me about 2/3rds of the way through my writing the first version of this email. So I'm going to have to remember what I had typed! I was in...

Putting our Howse in Order - December 2020

Hello everyone. We've reached the end of another year, and in the case of 2020 who will be able to forget it? I'm sure we all hope for better things in 2021. As I said at the end of last month's newsletter, I hope you were able to get some family time in. My wife and I braved the virus (and the weat...

Re: Putting our Howes in order - November 2020

I have since found the marriage certificate for Rose May Howes. It shows one detail we had missed: her father was Charles Edwin Howes - a hardware warehouseman - deceased before 1916 I'm still none the wiser, however! Worth noting that fathers were sometimes marked as deceased in marriage registers ...

Putting our Howes in order - November 2020

Hello everyone. You don't need me to tell you we've had another busy month! While the US politicians have been scrambling around trying to figure out what actually happened at the beginning of the month, we've had our heads down, beavering away. Here's the current state of play as we updated our onl...

Putting our Howes in order - October 2020

Hello everyone. One of the joys of genealogy is that to do it well, one needs to concentrate. And that means that I am not spending too much of my time on the internet fretting about the US election, the result of which now seems a lot more personal since I became a citizen, even though I have lived...

Putting our House in order - September 2020

Hello everyone. Happy new month. I’m writing from Florida where I returned last week to celebrate my Ruby wedding with the long-suffering (about 40 years!) Mrs H. So please forgive the vanity picture, taken at London Corinthian Sailing Club right by the River Thames in the middle of London, on Septe...
