The Times (of London) carried the following article on 19 Oct 1912
Before Mr Justice Darling at Norwich, yesterday, Robert Valentine Perry, aged 32, a labourer, was indicted for the manslaughter of Nellie Howes. Mr Beaumont Morice and Mr S P Low represented the Director of Public Prosecutions; and Mr Gerald Dodson, was for the defence.
The prisoner was convicted at the last Assizes of having unlawfully assaulted the woman, and at present he is undergoing the sentence then passed. At the close of his trial the woman died, the prosecution now maintained, from paralysis caused by the injuries inflicted by the prisoner.
The jury found the prisoner Guilty, but made a strong recommendation to mercy.
The judge asked the reason for the recommendation, and the foreman said that it had been made because the prisoner had already been punished. The judge replied that he had not been punished for killing the woman. His Lordship passed sentence of 18 months' hard labour, directing that the period of imprisonment which the prisoner had already served should be deducted from the sentence.

So, who was Nellie? Remember that Nellie can be short for Helen, Ellen or Eleanor.
