Miles House of Weymouth

Post by mardler »

I received the following note from a fellow member of the Guild of One-Name Studies:
I have been pursuing elements of my researches in the Weymouth area and some years ago obtained a couple of lists of beneficiaries of the Sir Samuel Mico charity. The charity provides annually for pensions to ‘decayed seamen’ (defined as ‘of the borough who have reached the age of 70’) and for poor local children to be apprenticed. Administration of the charity seems to have been a bit haphazard with years going by and no-one listed. The names were extracted from the charity’s minutes (not by me!) and the dates are when those names appear i.e. the dates of the minutes rather than the exact date of the events. Little detail is given but I’ve included what there is in the transcripts for what it may be worth.

Your name entry is:
Seaman 25 Oct 1804 Miles HOUSE died

I note that the previous minutes were dated 20 Sep 1804 so perhaps his death between those dates, maybe!

For info on the charity see here - http://www.weymouth-town-charities.org.uk/mico.html

Can you help?
