    • says he is a widower at marriage to Ann. A William Howes died in Deloraine in 1861 age 68, but the informant was a "David Palmer, grandson". Unless this David Palmer came from the first marriage in the UK, it is unlikely that it was this William

      From a website dedicated to the Costessey poachers, all 14 of whom stood trial together (http://www.geocities.ws/sandgroper79/poachers19.html):
      - William was aged 32 and from Little Brandon
      - he was a groom and coachman
      - his wife and children lived in Norwich
      - in Tasmania, he was assigned to Mr Seagram and then served as a constable
      - on 17 March 1836 he was sentenced to 1 month hard labour on a road gang for being drunk and striking his wife
      - granted a conditional pardon 24 May 1839
