Albert Howes was a carpenter and a farmer. He and Jane Elizabeth lived at "Hillside", on a hill overlooking West Somerton. There were two sets of staircases. The back stairs were for the servants. In 1977, the house had been converted into a bed and breakfast residence. The barn buildings were located across the road. Names of the Howes children are etched into the wood of the barn.
