    • FMP has a four page discharge report
      James's conduct was "very good" but he was discharged for a swollen knee which made him unfit for further service.
      MEdical officer's report reads: "in April 1851, he was first attacked with acute pain and swelling of the right knee, for which he was under medical treatment for one month, and then discharged, but he was not able to perform his regular duty. On the 14 Oct 1852, he was re-admitted into hospital, the swelling of the knee having increased and the joint having become stiff and unyielding. He is of a scrupulous habit of body and perfectly incapable of performing the active duties of a Gunner. Disability caused by constitutional predisposition."
