    Notes
    • Stated to be a widower on marriage in 1816
Named as Jonathan Howse in wife's burial register entry
From Linda: "Jonathan Howes was quite an industrious fellow from his many accompliments in Ontario when he arrived as a very early pioneer to Halton County in 1819. He build the first grist mill and saw mill and made great whiskey according to family stories, not to mention clearing the land and farming, all at the age of nearly 50. He also sired all those children, the last one being born when he was 63 . He must have been quite an energetic man! Also he seemed to attract the young ladies with no problem despite being so much older than both wives. He must have been a good catch."
Per the Michigan County History site, Jonathan spent time in Virginia, Georgia and Kentucky before returning to marry and return to Canada. Mind you, it also says he died at age 96 in 1852!
