      Mrs John Howse, a native of Avening, celebrated her 100th birthday today, having been born on November 14, 1834, this fact being recorded in the family Bible, now in the possession of her daughter, Mrs Tuffley, of High Street, Avening.
      The centenarian who is a descendant of rthe well-known Avening family of Fowles, spend the first ten years of her life at her birthplace, and then removed to Latton, near Cricklade.
      She married Mr John Howse in 1857 and for over 40 years they kept the quaintly names Inn known as "The Good Intent" in the tiny hamlet of Cerney Wick.
      Eleven years ago she went to reside in Yeovil with her eldest son, Mr Alfred Howse. A daughter, Mrs Clark, who lives in London, made a special cake for the birthday party, it bearing 100 candles.
      Although confined to her bed, Mrs Howse enjoys comparatively good health, and is in possession of all her faculties.
      Mr Howse (jr) is 77 years of age and Mrs Tuffley is 73. [9]
