    Notes
    • George was the assistant engineer for the construction of Wembley Stadium, London (has since been torn down).
George and Win immigrated to Northern Alberta, Canada about 1930 where he and his wife, Winifred farmed till the second World War when George resumed his engineering. He supervised the construction of the runways at the local airport where the planes would stop on their way to Alaska.
Barbara Lynch (George and Win Howes’ daughter) tells the story of when George and Win Howes finally arrived by train, the end of the line, in the Peace River country.
They had to live in a granary for a few days. Then the neighbours got together to build them a house. My mother had her first four children then and David, the youngest, was in diapers. One of the neighbours gave her a couple of chickens to cook for lunch for the men. My mother had only seen dressed chickens back in Wembly, England, but these two hens had their innards and feathers. She started plucking them and there were feathers flying all over the place. Quite a few stuck to David's wet diapers as he bounced around the floor. My mother couldn't stop laughing. In fact, she was almost hysterical. I do believe she managed to get the lunch prepared! Their farm was beside an Indian Reservation. They used to trade clothes etc. for moose, deer and bear meat.

George died 26 May 1965 and Winifred died 18 July 1976 Penticton, British Columbia, Canada, aged 78yrs.
